Since most of these blog posts have been me sharing my thoughts, I thought, for a change, and hopefully a sustainable change, that we get a dialogue going. So let’s begin this with your sharing your definitions of success. And if you have a challenge describing it, here’s a question that will help you: If you were the teacher of a class of young children and were to describe success to them, what would you say?

For many years I carried a clipping of an Ann Landers column with the following poem about success. Not quite in my own words, but this definition works pretty well for me!
Success
He has achieved success
who has lived well,
laughed often, and loved much;
who has enjoyed the trust of
pure women,
the respect of intelligent men and
the love of little children;
who has filled his niche and accomplished his task;
who has left the world better than he found it
whether by an improved poppy,
a perfect poem or a rescued soul;
who has never lacked appreciation of Earth’s beauty
or failed to express it;
who has always looked for the best in others and
given them the best he had;
whose life was an inspiration;
whose memory a benediction.

Success means I am on fire. Success means I know that what I am doing is what I was meant to do – spiritually, physically, emotionally. Success means that I play in the world BIG, and the world plays back BIG in its delivery of not just rewards, but lessons that can take me to the next highest level of being. Success means I understand that life is worth every precious moment and I act accordingly. Success means I do my best to think of others first. Success means that I acknowledge a Higher Power at work in all that I do and I express my gratitude to this Power as much as possible. Success means that I see love all around me – in all people and all things – material or otherwise. Success means that I know I am not separate or better than anyone, but we are all here to help each other out a little more each day.
Prior to LPT I defined success as reaching a monetary goal (making X amount of money) or having certain material things. However, there is so much more to being “truly” successful in life. Success is a state of mind, not a destination. It means to “be” all that you are and to be able to fully express the real “who” that you are to the world. It means to know your values and to live according to those values always.
