When my book came out, I was doing workshops at bookstore after bookstore. Some were well publicized and had great turnouts. Others were not publicized and, as much as I’d like them to have been in a place where “size didn’t matter,” I really found doing workshops with small audiences a bit of a waste of time and energy; however, on one occasion, I learned a valuable lesson.
This particular evening’s event was very small — only about 15 people or so. I really didn’t want to be there, but I did all I could to muster enough energy to make the evening special enough to remember.
After the workshop, a woman came over to say hello. She told me she didn’t know I was going to be doing a workshop tonight called “Relax, You’re Already Perfect,” nor was she aware that there was even a workshop going on. I asked, “So, what did you get out of this?” Her reply changed my life. She answered, “Well, something just told me to come here tonight. I don’t know what it was, and I didn’t know what to expect. I just followed my intuition.” She continued with joyful tears in her eyes. “You see, I was going to kill myself tonight. I thought I didn’t matter and had nothing to live for. This was the message I didn’t even know I needed. Thank you.”
I once heard a saying that went, “You may be only one person in the world, but you may be the world to one person.” This woman was a great teacher to me. We both received a lesson that was very timely for us. And while I still love to do workshops for large groups, no matter what size group it is, I give it everything I have.
And now the lesson is passed on to you. Instead of just going through the motions today, stop for a second and ask yourself, “If this was the day that I would be remembered for, how would I want to live it?”

We’ve all been trained that success needs to be earned. Too often, we delay true happiness, as if that has to be earned as well. And we mostly worry about the future, or regret the past, and so we’re everywhere but here and now. Success and happiness are subjective and occur whenever we choose to see things that way.
This week, develop a trigger, such as wearing a watch on your other hand, and whenever you see it, stop whatever you’re doing, take a deep breath, look around and appreciate the moment, and realize the valuable gift of life offered to you in that instant.
And remember, there’s no better time to appreciate the present than now.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could appreciate each experience we have without judgment? When things are painful, we label them as bad and want them to end. When things are enjoyable, we label them as good and are disappointed when they end.
Life just is. There are no good or bad experiences; there are only experiences, and without judgment, all will offer you value.
This week, instead of judging your life, try to be an observer instead of just the participant.

As most of you know, we are all energy. Energy is either anabolic (this builds you up) or catabolic (this breaks you down). It’s important to note that everything in our lives, including tasks, goals, relationships, jobs, etc., are either anabolic or catabolic as well.
Consider all the things in your life that help you, or hinder you, from being the best you can be. To get the most energy out of life, you’ll need to decide what energy (people, places, and things) you want to keep, and what you want to let go.
This week, make an inventory of the people, places, and things in your life and decide whether they are anabolic or catabolic. For the catabolic items, think about how you can change them or let them go.

Too many people take life too seriously and things too personally.
Sometimes, due to our worrying about upsetting another person, we hold back from connecting with them. Instead, being open and honest will lead to a greater connection. Just keep one thing in mind: if your intentions are pure, then a simple apology will clean anything up that may have been received as inappropriate.
This week, don’t worry about what people think; truly connect instead.
