I am so grateful for how coaching has enhanced my internal capacity to handle whatever life hands me. So much so, that I want to share the amazing experience and resulting self-awareness, inner peace, and happiness with others.
Several years ago, I was in a place where many parents find themselves - feeling pulled in multiple directions, and living on autopilot. I had too little time and energy to devote to all the conflicting priorities in my life, and ended up feeling a bit inadequate at them all.
My Human Resources role drastically changed on September 11, 2001. Through helping our employees (our offices were across the street from the World Trade Center), I got a glimpse of what it was like to truly help others – to have a significant impact on their lives. It was an amazing experience. I felt so alive! I loved being able to help others in such a big way.
I worked with a life coach to address my feelings of frustration and inadequacy, and to identify ways to continue to feel that value of truly helping others. I got clear on my priorities and began living according to my values. As I experienced the transformational powers of coaching first-hand, I realized that this was the way to help people live their lives to their fullest potential. I attended iPEC training and learned the coaching process that allowed me to see things in a much more positive light and completely changed my life. I realized my passion was not to just live my own life to the fullest, feeling fulfilled as a parent, wife, friend, etc., but to help others find that same fulfillment and inner peace in their own lives. I decided to pursue a career in coaching, and founded Cohesive Outcomes, a company dedicating to enriching the lives of parents through coaching and outdoor adventure retreats.
The proof of how much the coaching process enhanced my internal capacity to handle all that life throws at me came when I was faced with a shocking personal tragedy. I was able to handle the situation with much more grace and ease than I ever imagined, due to what I had learned through coaching. My husband was shot in the face in a random act of violence. Instead of feeling like the victim (“How could this happen to us?”), instead of feeling sorry for myself (“How can I cope with all the stresses of this situation?”), I was able to see all things I had to be grateful for (he’s alive, he’s going to fully recuperate, we’ve got access to great doctors, we have a network of wonderfully supportive family and friends). I realized I was not a victim of my circumstances, but in control of my reactions and resulting situations. I began to live with an amazing calmness, knowing that I was able to live life on my terms, and actually create the life of my dreams.
I continue to be thankful of how coaching has enriched my life. Every day, I’m able to more clearly see the abundance in my life. I find ways to spend time enjoying all the things I have to be thankful for. I’ve stopped using up my precious energy on negative things, or things I can’t change and instead find positive energy that allows me to focus on keeping my family and friends a priority. So much energy that I’ve been able to find enough to train and complete a full marathon – yep – 26.2 miles! And coaching has allowed me to find clarity in my life – to realize that my purpose is to help others. And that’s why I’m here – to help parents realize they can achieve balance and satisfaction in lives. And that people can, not only survive in tough times, but thrive!

That’s what happens when 400 like-minded change agents, coaches and community leaders gather in a hotel in Morristown, New Jersey! On Thursday, March 4th, iPEC Coaching hosted S.H.I.F.T. New Jersey, an event which is part of a national consciousness-raising movement, as well as a celebration of iPEC’s 10th anniversary.
The keynote speaker was Bruce D Schneider, Master Certified Coach, founder of iPEC, who personally shared the transformational power behind “The Slingshot Effect,” a unique phenomenon that occurs when a significant amount of pressure builds up within and around us. By simply learning how to release this pressure, one can be at the cause of his or her life - and create a ripple effect of extraordinary results. Dr. Schneider invited all those in attendance to take the challenge of making a difference in at least one person’s life over the next 30 days. The crowd was more than excited to participate.
Other presenters included iPEC’s CEO, D. Luke Iorio, and other iPEC executives, Deborah Van De Grift, Cheryl Wilson, and affiliate partner, Ed Abel from Abel Business Institute, Network Plus, Powerful You!, and Affinity. Events have occurred in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New Jersey, with additional cities being planned.
Listen to what some of the attendees had to say about this extraordinary evening:
“It only goes to show you the transformation power of iPEC and Bruce Schneider when they sell out a room to 400 people. The S.H.I.F.T. NJ event was an evening of inspiration, energy, motivation and it left a lasting impact! Bruce’s presentation was mindful and full of enlightening purpose. Definitely, do not miss the next S.H.I.F.T. event!!”
Ed Able, Abel Business Institute
“Thank you, iPEC, for the incredible evening at SHIFT NJ! You provided inspiration, motivation, and meaningful insights to propel forward anyone interested in improving their own life or making a difference in the lives of others. I am grateful to have experienced the power of iPEC and look forward spreading the word so others may benefit as well. I can now understand why Bruce D Schneider is such a well-loved leader.”
Sue Urda, Co-Founder of Powerful You! Women’s Network www.powerfulyou.com
“SHIFT is a movement emerging from these challenging, yet exciting times. We were thrilled with the reception of the New Jersey event, which, like all SHIFT events, was intended for professionals, leaders, and change agents who want to see positive change happen and seek support and ideas for new ways to progress. The room was filled with like-minded people who wish to seize and create opportunities, and make a significant difference in the world.”
D. Luke Iorio, CEO, iPEC Coaching
“I came to SHIFT because I always get inspired when I listen to Bruce speak. (and I did). It lifts my energy level and always gives me new and interesting things to expand my mind and therefore my business. The bonus factor of being at SHIFT that I did not think ahead about was reconnecting to so many people in the iPEC family. It is unbelievable uplifting to be in a room filled with people whose values, consciousness, and love of living and learning bond us together.”
Ivy Slater from Slater Success Coaching
“SHIFT New Jersey was an absolutely inspirational evening. The energy, the people, and the practical, down-to-earth information were all remarkable. And if that wasn’t enough, I found “The Slingshot Effect” was not only a fantastic transformational tool but a revolutionary “shift” in perspective that turns tension into triumph. Great stuff from start to finish!!”
Brett Ramsdell, Coaching Student
“SHIFT offers a powerful and concise reminder of the absolute necessity of being fully engaged as the leader of your own life, and making the conscious choice to affect others positively. Watch your world expand as you shift!”
Kimber Britner from Bright Life Coaching

Today we celebrate Washington’s Birthday, also commonly known as Presidents Day. What a great day to recognize our first president, George Washington, and, while we are at it, recognize all those Chief Executives who came after him. While we may not always agree with some of their politics, they have often inspired and motivated us with their powerful words.
Here are a few great quotes from past presidents upon which to reflect.
George Washington: “A slender acquaintance with the world must convince every man that actions, not words, are the true criterion of the attachment of friends.”
Here Washington is speaking about integrity, knowing yourself and what you stand for, and then making decisions, presenting yourself, and acting upon those beliefs. Integrity is perhaps best demonstrated when the leader has become the message, and is not simply the messenger — meaning they truly “walk the walk.”
Abraham Lincoln: “Good things may come to those who wait, but only those things left behind by those who hustle.”
Great leaders know that progress cannot continue until decisions are made. They get clear on their decision making criteria, consciously walk through their decision making process, and know how to balance the need for more information with the opportunity that could be lost by delaying the decision.
Harry Truman… “The buck stops here.”
A lesson in responsibility: Leaders take responsibility for their own actions, and hold themselves accountable. They aren’t about finger-pointing, and they are clear about their role in every decision and issue. They “own” their part.
Ronald Reagan: “Trust but verify.”
A lesson in accountability: Accountability is not “looking over someone’s shoulder” because you don’t trust them. In ensuring that all’s been done according to plan, you can move forward to what’s next. If there’s trust, it means there’s no reason you can’t hold someone accountable, nor should they mind. They actually will view it as someone looking to support them in making sure they have followed through
with plan and purpose.
And remember, you don’t have to be a President to be a leader. A leader is the individual in an interaction who knowingly or unknowingly creates the greater influence on the other person. It’s not about whether you are a leader, it is about how well you lead! What kind of leader do you want to be?
Happy President’s Day!

Coaching is more than a profession; it’s a way of living. Coaching offers you a new attitude, perspective and valuable skills that improve the quality of your life dramatically.
One way coaching does this is through improving communication. Most of our frustrations are the result of poor communications that lead to misunderstandings and mismatched expectations – both our own and others’ expectations. Think about the last argument, disappointment, or conflict you had… how much of that could have been more easily solved (if not altogether avoided) with clear communication right from the start?
All of these things can mean that our relationships aren’t as strong as we would like them to be and can be. And relationships are the key to success these days. A multitude of articles from O magazine to HR Manager to the NY Times continuously point to relationships as the key factor for satisfaction in both the workplace and at home. Building better relationships with co-workers will help you look forward to work and approach it with greater energy which will propel you into success!
Why is this relevant to coaching?
Coaching not only shows you how to bring out the best in people but it also shows you how to communicate more clearly. The fundamental skill for coaching effectively is communication and understanding of oneself and others. Communication is one of the cornerstones to how we relate to everyone – including ourselves!
So, how will coaching really improve your life… dramatically?
1. Coaching creates more self-awareness
Both by being coached or going through the coach training you will become conscious to what makes you YOU — through discovering and understanding the meaning of your beliefs, thought patterns, perceptions, emotions and know how. A coach is a guide – who is self-confident, patient, insightful, and understanding of others.
2. Coaching cuts through our communication barriers
By becoming more self-aware we can see more clearly, as if veils of misperceptions and misunderstanding are finally lifted. This generates insight around expectations and therefore our communications become more transparent and match our real intentions (and not our interpretations!). As we become clearer we also help others to be clearer in what they really mean.
While these are just 2 of many aspects of coaching, they contribute significantly to healthy, sympathetic and energetic relationships. Through this, new levels of cooperation, collaboration and most importantly understanding are possible.
You can be a better leader, friend, spouse, executive, teacher, parent… And you can even call yourself a coach!
This is why coaching is the profession of choice for so many: Because it isn’t just a profession, it’s a way of living!
