Article published in The Alternative Press by Michael Shapiro: “Coaching: Enabling People to Achieve Success in a Changing Economy”

October 30th, 2009

On October 20ththe Alternative Press published an interview with Luke Iorio, President of the Coach Training Division at iPEC and Master Business Coach, highlighting how coaching helps people to achieve success in this rapidly changing economy.

A few additional thoughts on this topic from Luke Iorio:

Our greatest resource is under great pressure right now: our energy. With rapidly changing circumstances, everyone feels their energy pulled in countless directions. It can feel like the world around us and whatever situations we find ourselves in are dictating what we must do. It feels like we have little, to no choice in some if not many areas of our lives… and yet, this view won’t stand long in this country. We already are seeing individuals stand up and say, “Ok, I get it; we needed to change. So what can I do to make it happen?”

This interview was a great chance to give insights into the coaching process, what the coach looks to do, and much more. It’s very timely to what we’re experiencing.

Too Young to Retire: Baby Boomers Start Coaching Businesses

October 9th, 2009

The traditional business model and large corporations no longer provide the satisfaction and job security as they used to only a decade ago.

Interestingly enough despite these challenging economic times, America appears to be on the cusp of an entrepreneurial boom… and baby boomers are leading the way, according to a study conducted by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. Over the past decade Americans age 55-64 have seen the highest rate of entrepreneurial activity — and growth in entrepreneurship among nearly all age groups has seen increases over the past 24 months as motivated individuals are taking their careers into their own hands.

With their vast business and life experience and the desire to help others succeed and have more fulfilling lives and careers, they are simply too young to retire. The profession of coaching is calling to them because it is one of the few professions that fully capitalizes on their experience, values, and “pay it forward” attitude. Baby boomers have acquired their interest in coaching as others have sought their help and advice looking to learn from their life and career experiences.

Answer these questions, for yourself, and see if they steer you towards a natural calling:

  • What do you value — personal growth? Working in partnership? Helping others?
  • What experiences and strengths do you have that might be of assistance to others?
  • What do you feel when you see great potential in others – and help them see it too? What drive do you have to help them exercise that potential?

The Big Questions- Part Two: Discovering and Sharing Your Gifts

October 6th, 2008

Several questions were submitted to me for the “Ask Bruce” call I conducted last month regarding discovering and sharing one’s gifts.  iPEC’s programs and methodologies all address this most important topic.

Q: How can I use your technology to tap into my creative energy and explore/determine the best direction for my new career?”

A: Unless you’re already a coach, I’d work with one to help me make that determination. In fact, even if you are a coach, I’d still recommend you work with one for this. There is just way too much to this process to easily answer this in a blog post, but a great Energy Leadership coach can help you tap into your true gifts and focus on how to use them.

Q: For a life coach on a spiritual journey, what stages or possibilities of personal growth and service to humanity are open to me beyond coaching?”

A: The possibilities are endless. Once you are walking the talk as a coach, energetically, you ALWAYS express your gifts in whatever you do. Workshops, books, CDs, courses, groups, and other such message delivery methods are usually great media to positively inspire and motivate people.

Q: What are the strategies to help people believe in my vision and become committed to see the vision come to reality?

Find people with a similar vision and partner with them to bring the idea to fruition. No need to fight to convince people in what you believe in. There are plenty of people who are already part of the choir that you’re preaching to.

Success, Defined

August 10th, 2008

What’s your definition of success? In iPEC’s Life Potentials Training, we discuss reaching success "as you define it." So, let’s define it here. Since most of these blog posts have been me sharing my thoughts, I thought, for a change, and hopefully a sustainable change, that we get a dialogue going. So let’s begin this with your sharing your definitions of success. And if you have a challenge describing it, here’s a question that will help you: If you were the teacher of a class of young children and were to describe success to them, what would you say?
