A Brief Explanation of Energy Leadership

We all interpret the world through filters.

Human vision is pretty incredible. Eyes are capable of taking in vast amounts of information and transmitting it instantly to our brains, helping us understand what we’re seeing and experiencing.

Humans have created lots of ways to filter or change the way we see the world around us. Glasses bring what we’re looking at into sharper focus. Sunglasses filter the amount of light that reaches our eyes. Kaleidoscopes break down what we’re looking at into lots of tiny pieces. Telescopes help us see things that we could never otherwise dream of viewing, like stars and planets that are very far away.

Of course, we see and interpret the world through more than just our eyes. We take in various kinds of information through all the senses we have available to us, including our intuition—and again, our brains help us understand what it all means.

These kinds of sensory inputs also pass through filters that affect the way we perceive the world around us. But unlike glasses or kaleidoscopes, these filters are based on our unique experiences, values, assumptions, and more, and will either limit what we see (like tunnel vision) or expand what we see (like a prism).

Enter the power of Energy Leadership.

What is Energy Leadership?

Energy Leadership is the ability to identify and consciously work with your filters—and therefore, your energy. Unlike a kaleidoscope, which you choose to look through, the filters that shape how we perceive the word are often unconscious—which means the way we interact with the world and the energy we bring into our relationships can be as well.

Energy Leadership can also be understood as a specific process—one that allows you to develop a personally effective style of leadership that positively influences and changes not only yourself but also those with whom you work and interact, as well as your organization as a whole.

Relatedly, the Energy Leadership™ Index (ELI) is an attitudinal assessment (rather than a personality-based one) that helps you see your filters, understand the energy you’re experiencing and expressing, and make decisions about how you perceive and influence the world around you. This insight allows you to show up in a new, transformative way with clients, teammates, loved ones, and anyone else you interact with. And studies show that people with higher overall energy levels tend to accrue a greater sense of life satisfaction!
