Tuesday, February 19, 2008 - Living in the Question

Immediately after college, Kurt Wright joined the Pillsbury Company as a commodity trader. It was there that he was first introduced to the contrarian principle that: “the crowd is always wrong.” In other words, he learned to recognize that when everyone else was selling, it was probably the best time for him to be buying.

It was during a goal-setting contest with Dale Carnegie in the fall of 1970, that he set the first goal of his life: to become a world famous motivational speaker within 10 years. As he began to think about how reach this ambitious goal, he noticed that everyone around him seemed to be focused on what’s wrong. Remembering what he’d learned at Pillsbury about the crowd, he saw how he could become a lone player on an empty stage, with no competition in sight, by simply becoming the world’s leading expert on “what’s right.”

More specifically, he decided to focus his life on understanding what each of us are like at our very best, and how to be that way more of the time. Thirty eight years of asking that question have led both Kurt and his wife and business partner, Patricia, to some remarkable and exciting discoveries.

In this installment, Kurt and Patricia Wright join Bruce to talk about questions; what a powerful effect they have on our life—the energy we generate, the insights we gain and answers that show up, the resources we draw to us, and the miracles we can manifest—all as a result of which questions we ask and how we ask them.
