If you're here, chances are you’re probably curious about the Energy Leadership Index® (ELI) assessment and how it can support your coaching business. (There are truly so many ways!)
By the end, you’ll have a crystal-clear picture of how you can use the ELI in your coaching practice—and we’ve got some exciting resources to help you implement it right away (including a brand new ELI mastermind). Ready to unlock new possibilities for your business? Let’s dive in!
We all see the world through our own unique lens. This lens influences how we perceive everything around us. Sometimes our perspective serves us well (yay!), and other times, it can hold us back from living our most vibrant, fulfilling lives.
What makes the ELI truly unique is that it’s the only assessment in the world that provides a clear, quantifiable blueprint of this lens.
And with the help of an iPEC coach, clients discover insights about how they show up in the world that can lead to remarkable shifts in energy that hold the potential to change their lives forever (and indeed, many thousands around the world already have).
While personality-based assessments like Myers-Briggs or the Enneagram offer valuable insights into a person’s tendencies and traits, the ELI is attitudinal. So instead of labeling someone with a specific, fixed "type," (like INFP or Type 3), it recognizes that we human beings are very much capable of change. And in fact, it can happen rather quickly when working with a Core Energy Coach. 😉

iPEC offers two main types of ELI assessments—the ELI self-assessment (which includes the Group and Milestone assessment variations), and the ELI 360. While the core intention of both is to create more self-awareness in a person’s life, the approach they take is a little different.
The ELI self-assessment is exactly what it sounds like—an assessment of the self, based on a quick but unbelievably in-depth 20-30 minute online survey. | In addition to utilizing the same survey from the self-assessment, the ELI 360 gathers feedback from multiple outside perspectives as well, offering a comprehensive, "360-degree" view. |
So instead of just taking a person’s own perception of themselves into account, the ELI 360 involves feedback from other people like colleagues, friends, family, and team members. This provides a broader view of how the person’s energy and leadership are perceived by others. It’s truly an invaluable tool for understanding the impact of a person’s energy on those they interact with, and it’s great for uncovering blind spots and areas for growth. (Executives love this one!)
The beauty of the ELI is its versatility—it’s a tool you can use to help clients with a wide range of goals, from reducing stress to boosting confidence or gaining clarity on the next steps in their life. You can easily adapt it to meet clients where they are, which makes it incredibly useful because it means you can use it with any kind of client.
Many coaches love starting with an ELI debrief at the beginning of the coaching relationship. The debrief discussion often uncovers rich insights and areas to work on which set the stage for meaningful coaching sessions ahead. Plus, it’s a great way to create a baseline for your client’s energy levels and goals. Down the road, you can use the ELI again as a "milestone check-in" to track progress and see how things have shifted. (We’ll dive deeper into how you can use the ELI for these progress check-ins in just a bit.)
How you choose to price the ELI will depend on several factors, including the value it brings to your clients, the structure of your offering, and your business goals. You have the flexibility to experiment and find a pricing strategy that works best for you and your clients.
Offering the ELI as a standalone service is a powerful way to introduce potential clients to the Energy Leadership® framework. It gives them a clear, focused experience where they can dive deep into their energy levels and leadership potential, while also getting a taste of what it would be like to work with you in an ongoing coaching relationship.
What makes this approach particularly effective is that it gives clients a sneak peek into the kind of transformation they could experience in a longer-term coaching package. Many coaches use the standalone ELI session as a way to sell clients into bigger, longer-term coaching packages. After seeing the insights they can gain from just one session, clients are often eager to continue working with you to explore these areas more deeply and make lasting changes in their lives. It’s a perfect stepping stone to build trust, demonstrate the value of coaching, and set the stage for a more in-depth coaching experience.
While you can certainly price the standalone ELI at a premium to reflect its value and the deep insights it offers, another strategy that can also work well is to price it lower, making it more accessible to more potential clients. Because the ELI can be a relatively low-risk investment, it’s an easy way to get your foot in the door with lots of new clients. And once they experience the value of the ELI, they’ll be more likely to say yes to a full coaching package that can help them continue the work they’ve started.
Another popular approach is using the ELI as a kickoff for a coaching package. The key difference here is that the ELI is included in the coaching package, making it a truly premium experience. Since you’re offering the ELI as part of a larger package, it’s important to reflect that value in your pricing (make sure the pricing feels aligned with the depth and personalization you’re offering).
The ELI is a powerful tool, and when bundled with ongoing coaching, it offers clients a comprehensive and transformative experience right from the start.
An ELI Milestone assessment is a progress check during your client's coaching journey. After six months, you’ll have your client take the ELI assessment again (just like they did at the beginning of their journey with you) and you'll take them through another ELI assessment debrief. As your clients move through their coaching journey with you, Milestone ELI assessments are a fantastic way to track their growth and progress.
When it comes to pricing, you can include them in your coaching package from the start or offer them as periodic upsells/add-ons when the time feels right.
Either way, they’re a powerful way to show the ongoing value of coaching and keep your clients engaged and motivated as they see real, tangible results.
The ELI can also be an ideal option for groups where you can work with multiple people or teams at once. You can even do ELI debriefs for couples or family households! Pricing will likely be lower per client compared to one-on-one debriefs, but you’ll be able to work with multiple clients at once, making it a more scalable offering. You can adjust pricing based on the number of participants and the level of support you'll be providing.
Offering group ELI debriefs is a great way to attract new clients! By offering group debriefs, you’re giving more people the chance to experience the benefits of the ELI, which can spark interest in your one-on-one (or group) coaching services. Basically, the more people you introduce to the ELI—whether through a one-on-one or group debrief—the more people you’ll know who'll be interested in continuing coaching with you for deeper transformation.
There are endless ways to use (and price) the ELI—it’s about finding what works best for you and how you’re using it in your business. And don’t forget, you’re part of a community of brilliant, creative coaches who are probably using the ELI in ways we haven’t even thought of!
What might be possible by starting a conversation with your peers? Share ideas, ask questions, and see how they’re incorporating the ELI into their coaching practices. We bet you’ll quickly discover new strategies, pricing approaches, or even ways to add more value to your services. Level 5 collaboration and idea-sharing are key to growing and evolving your business, and your coaching community is a great resource for that!
This exciting opportunity is designed to help you connect with other coaches, brainstorm, and discover fresh ways to build your business using the ELI. 💡
We recently reached out to our iPEC coaches to get their thoughts on the impact of the ELI in their business—the results were incredible! Here’s what some of our coaches had to say:
Generally speaking, the ELI is an assessment designed to raise consciousness—something we feel every person on this planet can benefit from.
Many of our coaches report that they use the ELI with every client, and for good reason. As one coach recently shared, “I give the ELI to every potential client. Since it's such a unique and powerful way to get down to the source of dissatisfaction and stress, potential clients love it.”
The ELI is a fantastic starting point for any coaching relationship. It’s a powerful tool to kickstart your coaching sessions, and as your clients experience the transformation that comes with it, they’ll be more likely to see the value of continuing their work with you. Whether you're introducing the ELI to new clients or revisiting it for those you’ve been coaching for a while, it’s an invaluable tool that can help everyone unlock their highest potential.
